Veronica Roth Talks About Visiting The "Divergent" Set & Mentions Meeting Theo James & Co

Veronica Roth (the author of "Divergent") has written a piece on her blog about her visit to the "Divergent" set recently and meeting Theo James & Co

 photo 4-eatontumblr.png

Here's the excerpt where she mentions Theo:
"We returned to the knife-throwing set and I watched the scene...over and over again, because, you know, that's how shooting movies works! Strangely this did not get boring for me (even though I've written that scene from two different POVs and I've probably read it over 100 times), which is a credit to everyone involved with it. I can't say much without spoiling things, but I will say that the scene is very true to the book.

I know you're probably mostly interested in the cast, because that's who you'll actually see on the screen. Let me first say that everyone was so nice, despite the fact that, for the first half of the day, I was too stunned to form coherent sentences. The people I talked to: Shailene Woodley (Tris), Theo James (Four), Jai Courtney (Eric), Christian Madsen (Al), Miles Teller (Peter), Ben Lamb (Edward), Ben Lloyd Hughes (Will), Zoe Kravitz (Christina), Amy Newbold (Molly). Basically, the whole Dauntless gang.

And they were all awesome. What can I tell you? They were all SO GOOD in that scene. Every time! Which is probably why I was able to watch it so many times! Without getting tired of it! Exclamation points!"

VIDEO: Theo James & The "Divergent" Cast Spotted Having Dinner At Girl & The Goat Last Night (Sunday)

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Theo & cast (minus Kate Winslet, Mekhi Phifer & Ashley Judd) had dinner at Girl & The Goat last night.

From The Chicago Tribune:
The stars of “Divergent” took a break from factional feuding in the post-apocalyptic sci-fi film currently shooting in Chicago to have dinner together Sunday at Girl and the Goat in the West Loop.

Shailene Woodley, whose character leaves the “faction” she was born into for another (in the story, society is divided into five different factions), was joined at the restaurant by Miles Teller, her jealous rival in the film, and co-stars Zoe Kravitz, Theo James, Jai Courtney, Ben Lamb, Ben Lloyd Hughes, Christian Madsen (son of Chicago native Michael Madsen) and Chicago actress Amy Newbold.

Kate Winslet, Mekhi Phifer and recent addition Ashley Judd also star in the movie but were not on hand for the cast dinner.

From Entertainment Weekly:
Finally! Divergent has found its male lead! Theo James has been cast as Tobias ‘Four’ Eaton in Neil Burger’s (Limitless) big screen adaptation of Veronica Roth’s bestselling novel.

There’s been an awful lot of speculation as to who would play the mysterious Dauntless instructor opposite Shailene Woodley, who plays fierce heroine Beatrice Prior, when production gets going later this spring.

You might recognize James from CBS’s Golden Boy or from season 1 of Downton Abbey (he played the handsome man who died in Lady Mary’s bed.) “As a fan of Divergent, I am thrilled to have been chosen for the role of Four and to be a part of such a phenomenal story,” James tells EW in an exclusive statement. “As an actor, I am excited to explore and play this incredibly complex and mysterious character. Director Neil Berger is a remarkably visionary filmmaker. Along with the incredibly talented Shailene Woodley, we are looking forward to the fantastic adventure of bringing this beloved book to life on the big screen for all the fans.”

“Theo is not only an incredibly talented actor, he is also who we envisioned as Four when reading Veronica’s novel which has taken the world by storm,” says Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger, co-chairmen of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group in a joint statement. “As we continue to develop the film, the studio remains committed to providing fans with a movie adaptation that stays as true to the book as possible and we are confident that we have done so with our selection of Shailene and Theo in the leading roles.

Why such a long wait? Eric Feig, Lionsgate president of production says in a statement: “We took our time to find the right actor to fill the role of Four, and Theo is definitely the perfect fit. Veronica has crafted a truly iconic character in Four and we cannot wait to begin production and bring him and this story to life for millions of fans around the world.”

This nicely rounds out the cast which includes Kate Winslet, Die Hard‘s Jai Courtney, Zoe Kravitz and Maggie Q.
From The LA Times:

Neil Burger ("Limitless") is set to direct the feature with production scheduled to begin in Chicago in April. Vanessa Taylor ("Game of Thrones") wrote the script based on an original draft by Evan Daugherty ("Snow White and the Huntsman").

“I couldn't be happier that Theo James will be playing the role of Four," said Burger in a statement. "It's rare that you find someone who can do it all: he's tough and charismatic; a fighter and a lover. And he and Shailene Woodley (who plays Tris) have a remarkable chemistry — sparks truly fly between them.”

The search for the male lead has been going on since late last year, with many young actors testing for the role. Though Summit had been initially looking for a younger actor to fill the role, it seems the studio decided to expand the age range of the search.

“We took our time to find the right actor to fill the role of Four, and Theo is definitely the perfect fit,” said Erik Feig, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group’s president of production. “Veronica has crafted a truly iconic character in Four, and we cannot wait to begin production and bring him and this story to life for millions of fans around the world.”

Summit Entertainment, a division of Lionsgate, will release the film on March 21, 2014. Read More HERE

From Hypable
Author Veronica Roth chimed in on today’s news as well: “Recently I saw Theo James’ screen test with Shailene Woodley, and I was sure within seconds: this was ‘Four,’ no question. Theo is able to capture ‘Four’s’ authority and strength, as well as his depth and sensitivity. He is a perfect match for Shailene’s incredibly strong presence as Tris. I’m thrilled!”

Theo James Tells The NY Times How He Prepared For His Role In "Golden Boy"

Theo James Tells The NY Times How He Prepared For His Role In "Golden Boy"

Viewers who wonder why the clean-cut star of the new CBS police drama “Golden Boy,” beginning Feb. 26, looks familiar might want to picture him instead in a flowing wig. And dead.

Theo James, a British actor, is probably best known on these shores as Kemal Pamuk, the dashing Turkish diplomat who died in Lady Mary Crawley’s bed in the first season of “Downton Abbey.” Though the role amounted to only a few minutes of screen time, its impact was outsize, setting off nearly two seasons’ worth of intrigue surrounding the “Downton” daughter’s soiled reputation.

Though it “feels like years ago” that he did the part, Mr. James said he lately gets recognized for it more than ever, at least in the United States. “It’s only recently that people have been going: ‘It’s massive! Mr. Pamuk!’ ” he said.

Theo James Gets The Lead In CBS’ Pilot ‘Golden Boy’

Great news this morning.
Deadline.com and Digital Spy are among the sites reporting that Theo has landed the lead role in a new CBS pilot.

From Deadline.com

British actor Theo James has landed the lead in CBS’ drama pilot Golden Boy, from Nick Wootton and Greg Berlanti. The project, produced by Warner Bros TV and Berlanti Prods., centers on Clark (James), a cop, and chronicles his meteoric rise from officer to detective and ultimately police commissioner. Ryan Phillippe was originally tapped for the role but exited shortly thereafter, triggering a lengthy auditioning process that resulted in the casting of James. James, who has a handful of credits in his native Britain, including a lead on the BBC series Bedlam, is virtually unknown in the U.S. aside from a guest spot in the first season of Downton Abbey where he played Kemal Pamuk, the Turk who died in Lady Mary’s bed. He made his Hollywood debut in the recent Underworld: Awakening. James is the latest non-American actor to get the lead in a pilot this pilot season.

Where Will You See Theo James Next?

What's it all about I hear you ask
Well............

From Seenit.co.uk

The drama stars Olivia Williams as DS Charlie Zailer and Darren Boyd as DC Simon Waterhouse and is produced by Hat Trick Productions.

The new two part story is based Hannah’s best selling novel The Other Half Lives.

Zailer is taking out her frustrations in a kick boxing class, where she meets Ruth (Eva Birthistle), a young music teacher with a new boyfriend with whom she has fallen madly in love.

She believes she can unlock Aidan’s extraordinary talent as a pianist. And when he asks her to marry him, she accepts. But there are two problems. Firstly, she is married to someone else, a fellow teacher, and secondly, Aidan (Theo James), has admitted that in the past he killed someone.

In turmoil Ruth asks her new gym buddy Zailer how she might ‘help a friend’ check if her partner has a criminal record of any kind. Charlie is immediately suspicious. Fearing that her new friend is in danger, and despite the opposition of her boss DCI Proust (Peter Wight), she starts to investigate, only to uncover a story of thwarted dreams and murderous jealousy…

As cracks start to show in the case and her own relationship with Waterhouse, Zailer finds herself taking increasingly erratic steps to ensure she and the investigation don’t completely unravel.

The drama filmed on location in Buckinghamshire and London was commissioned by Controller of Drama Commissioning Sally Haynes and ITV’s Director of Drama Commissioning Laura Mackie.

Mackie said: “I’m thrilled to see Olivia and Darren reprising their dynamic partnership as Zailer and Waterhouse. It’s a compelling and disquieting story and Sarah Williams has delivered a superb adaptation of Sophie Hannah’s highly contemporary crime novel.”

"Bedlam" Returning For A Second Series Without Theo James?

I was SO pleased when I saw Sky Living announce that "Bedlam" was returning for a second series and then I was SO disappointed when I read that there was going to be an "all new line-up".

It's kind of unclear from the article from the Sky Living website (read it below) but from what I can make out they are saying that Theo James (and from the sounds of it Will Young too) won't be in the second series.
So will you still watch it if there's no Theo?

From Sky Living

Series two promises to be more sinister and scary than ever before - and it's coming to Sky Living HD in Spring 2012.

Based around a spooky old lunatic asylum masquerading as a luxury apartment block, this show has more psycho spirits than Paranormal Activity.

And fans of the first series are in for a treat, as there's an all-new line up ready to be spooked.

Leading the action will be multi-award-winning actress and EastEnders sweetheart Lacey Turner as Ellie, who, like Jed, is able to see dead people. Struggling to come to terms with her sixth sense, she goes in search of him to find the answers to her extraordinary gift - but will the past residents of Bedlam Heights be ready and waiting to welcome her? We're freaked out already.

She won't be the only one who's troubled by the underworld - Lacey's joined by actor Jack Roth (Sky 1 drama The Cafe), the stunning Gemma Chan (Secret Diary Of A Call Girl, Fresh Meat), James Sutton (Emmerdale, Hollyoaks), and newcomer Nikesh Patel.

With the first series ending on a complete cliffhanger, we were unsure as to who would make it out of the asylum alive.

But we've got a sneaky spoiler if you just can't wait to find out - look away now if you don't want to ruin the surprise.

Molly and Kate (Charlotte Salt), haunted by the dramatic events that occured at the property, fled to Thailand to travel. Kate has since returned to the Heights to confront her father, Warren (Hugo Speer), about the Bettany family secrets - but will he reveal the truth? In any case, it won't take long for the new residents to realise there's something sinister lurking behind the walls of Bedlam.

Lacey Turner told us she's already looking forward to the new series: "I am really excited... It's a great story with brilliant writing and a fantastic cast! Ellie is a really interesting and conflicted character. I'm looking forward to playing her and seeing where the story takes her."

So prepare to spend your evenings peeping out from behind a pillow, because you'll be scared to go out when this supernatural series returns in the spring.

And if you fancy seeing Series 1 again, it's available on Amazon.com & Amazon.co.uk at the links below.

Theo James Is One Of Variety.com's New Faces For Fall

From Variety

Few things can jumpstart a career as quickly as being cast in a Woody Allen movie.

In his final year at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, Oxford-born Theo James was tapped for a small part in "You Will Meet a Tall, Dark Stranger."

"Working with Woody Allen was extremely gratifying," James says. "He has such a vast catalog of great work that doing one of his films was somewhat unreal."

Anthony Hopkins provided a master-class experience during the filming.

"He's very real about the industry," James says. "It is an art form, to sound a bit pretentious, but it is also a job."

In the 18 months since graduating, James quickly picked up film ("Underworld: Awakening") and TV roles, including swarthy lover Kemal Pamuk in Masterpiece's "Downton Abbey" and ghost communicator Jed, who is diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic, in BBC America's new fall drama "Bedlam."

"For (Jed), who is considered mad, it's about expressing that loneliness, of not fitting in, " James says. "But for all that, it's still a drama about young people, and you have to grab the realism to make it work."

While James toyed with the idea of becoming an actor when he was 18, he felt he was too green to embark on that career until he had some life experiences.

"It might have worked for others, but I was not mature enough to do it," says James, who holds a degree in philosophy from the U. of Nottingham. "I needed to be a bit more grounded and to have more to draw from. It was the right decision for me."
